Sunday 26th June

5th Sunday After Trinity

A very warm welcome to everyone for our worship this morning.  Today is a day of special visitors and it is a particular pleasure to welcome back the Ven. John Reed on this last Sunday of his pre-retirement ministry. Not everyone will know that John was vicar here in the last century and his legacy of love, warmth and acts of faith are still very present, not least in the provision of the Minster Rooms.

This evening a guest choir from St Mary’s Olveston will delight us with choral evensong to which everyone is welcome.

Our prayer is that, regardless of whether you are a visitor or a regular to the Minster Church, you will be strengthened in faith and fellowship this Sunday.

Almighty and everlasting God,

by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified:

hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people,

that in their vocation and ministry

they may serve you in holiness and truth

to the glory of your name;

through our lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Psalm 16

Galatians 5.1, 13 – 25

Luke 9.51 – end

A Warm Welcome for Rev

Deborah Perreau

Deborah will be ordained in Wells Cathedral on Sunday 3rd July at 10.30am.  You are very welcome to attend the service if you would like. You do not need a ticket but you will need to get there in good time.

If you are unable to make the official ordination service, we will have our own chance to welcome Deborah and Mike on the evening of the 3rd July at 6pm at a special Songs of Praise Service which will be held in Whitelackington Church (refreshments will be provided following the service).

Deborah will be with us for three to four years as a training curate and is very much looking forward to getting to know everyone in the parish.  She will remain in her own home in Coombe St Nicholas and work as a self-supporting part-time minister.

Nigel at Windsor Castle July 4-14th

I have been invited to join a clergy consultation at St Georges House, Windsor next month.  It is called ‘Some Conversations– How do you speak about God?’  I have been given a reading list, prepared a paper to give and will lead a bible study.  Looking at the list of eminent speakers from all walks of society, it looks as though it will be a stimulating time.  I’m taking my bike for a sneaky early morning ride so if I bump into the Queen I will pass on very best wishes from Ilminster.

The Big C and Me

Some of you may remember Katy Garner, an ordinand from Cuddston College at Oxford, who was with us last summer.  Her time was rudely foreshortened by her need to return to hospital for an operation for cancer.  Her story of treatment over the year was filmed for a BBC documentary called ‘The big C and Me’, which was shown on Thursday 23rd June but is still available on Iplayer.  It is a very powerful story and witness to her faith.
