Pewsheet 24th April 2016

It would be lovely to see as many parishioners and members of the congregation on Sunday evening for our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM).  It is an important moment in our life together to celebrate what God has been doing among us. We present our 2015 accounts, make appointments such as churchwardens and PCC members and, as vicar I make a report and am pleased to receive questions. Please make every effort to come this Sunday. Evensong is at 6pm, arrive at 7pm for a drink before our meeting starts.

Welcome

Welcome to our worship this weekend.

Today’s reading from Acts allows us to eavesdrop on the early church struggling to get used to a major development.  What we hear is healthy debate, openness to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and a willingness to take the risk. Not a bad reminder of a way to be a healthy Church community on the day of our Annual Meeting.

Collect

Almighty God,

who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ

have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:

grant that, as by your grace going before us

you put into our minds good desires,

so by your continual help

we may bring them to good effect;

through Jesus Christ our risen Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Call to Prayer

Ministry is empty and barren without prayer.

A letter from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York has recently been sent out to every serving parish priest in the Church of England in a Call to Prayer in the week leading up to Pentecost.

“We long to see a great wave of prayer across our land, throughout the Church of England and many other Churches. Our hope is:-

  • for all Christians to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • for all of us to have confidence to share the Gospel.
  • for all to respond to the call of Jesus Christ to follow Him as disciples, to live out the Gospel and to seek God’s kingdom from day to day.”

There is time to pray together at our next Saturday morning Prayer Breakfast at 8 – 9.30am on the 7th May and on Saturday the 14th May in the Minster Church at The Upper Room worship time.

How would you like to make real our response? There are ideas and resources on the website: www.thykingdom.co.uk.
